Valley Christian shooter still short of Luedtke's lost 3-point record
Record keeping among high school athletics in Montana is an inexact science. In fact, there’s little scientific about it. Often times outstanding performances get lost in the fray and are never reported or officially recognized in the Montana High School Association record book.
Such was the case for a boys’ basketball game played 15 years ago.
Last weekend, Valley Christian’s Cameron Ireland buried 12 3-point shots for a once-thought MHSA record. But on Jan. 8, 2000, Ronan’s Matt Luedtke did even better with 13 makes from long range.
Vote for Hellgate boys for region's top basketball program
Missoula Hellgate is in the running for Best Boys Basketball Program of 2015 in a poll conducted by the USA Today and the Knights have already made the regional round.
That makes Montana’s State AA front-runner one of the top seven programs in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Idaho and Wyoming — but they need your help to reach the national finals.
Just vote online here as many times as you want. The second round (regionals) runs through noon on Thursday, Jan. 29.
Sentinel grad, future Cowgirl faces best of Wyoming in all-star series
Way back in November, Missoula Sentinel senior Olivia Roberts signed to play basketball at the University of Wyoming after graduation.
Before she ever suits up for the Cowgirls, Roberts is getting a chance to play against some cowgirls this weekend as part of the Treasure State’s roster in the Montana-Wyoming All-Star Basketball Series.

By this point everybody has heard the news of Montana men’s basketball coach Wayne Tinkle’s recent hire by Oregon State.
Tinkle takes a winning history to a Beavers program hoping to do much more of that in the not-so distant future. But will he also take his son, current Missoula Hellgate junior and big-time prospect Tres, with him?
Frenchtown softball lineup heavy with college commits
The better half of Frenchtown’s batting lineup has already committed to play college sports in the near future.
And no I don’t mean the “better half” as in the better players — although they do seem to be pretty good. By most games’ arrangements so far this spring, the first five hitters in the Broncs’ order have already made commitments to play collegiately.
And here’s the thing: not all of them are even softball players.
Winter academic all-team winners for 2013-14
The MHSA/Army National Guard Academic All-Team Award winners were announced Monday for the winter sports seasons.
The awards are given to the top three teams that exhibit outstanding academic achievement during the school year’s second quarter of play for each respective activity in each of the MHSA schools’ classification (AA, A, B and C). Member schools calculate their students’ accumulative grade point average for the award.
This season’s varsity winners with cumulative team GPA:
