Cherry Creek Radio will be carrying nearly all Class AA Missoula football games this fall on one of its two AM radio stations — 1450 KGRZ and 1340 KYLT.
That includes several away games with the only exceptions when Missoula’s three teams (Big Sky, Hellgate and Sentinel) play simultaneously.
Cherry Creek Sports Director Bill Schwanke will handle the calls along with Chris Stratton.
With the conclusion of Saturday’s championships in the Southwestern and Central A’s and Western B-C divisional softball tournaments, the state tournament brackets for Montana’s three high school sports classifications for spring 2014 are set.
Here are the first-round pairings for each, with tournament play beginning next Thursday in Great Falls and Polson:
Had Wednesday night’s clash of state Nos. 1 and 2 been played as originally scheduled, Olivia Roberts likely would have gotten to enjoy senior night with her fellow Spartans.
Initially slated for last Thursday before a slew of blizzards and school closures, the rematch of last year’s State AA finals that yielded Sentinel its second straight championship was pushed back a week before the Spartans could pull off the coup of Capital.
Roberts, though, watched from the bench and missed her second straight game because of illness.
UPDATED: A blizzard warning forced the postponement of the Sentinel-Capital basketball games Thursday. The action will be made up on Monday, Mar. 3, with Sentinel’s girls still hosting Capital at 7 p.m. and the boys on the road in Helena also at 7 p.m.
Almost four weeks ago, Helena Capital knocked Missoula Sentinel off the path of the unbeatens by upsetting the No. 1 ranked Spartans 55-50 in Helena.
Neither team has lost since as last year’s State AA finalists have been hurtling toward another rematch this week. The now top-ranked Bruins come to Missoula to face the second-ranked Spartans for a 7 p.m. tip-off Thursday, a meeting of two 17-1 clubs with high state aspirations.
Local basketball fans can tune in to Class AA games on the radio as Cherry Creek Radio this week announced its broadcast schedule for the remainder of the winter hoops season with Western AA league play the focus.
Games will air on both KGRZ (1450 AM) and KYLT (1340 AM) to allow coverage of multiple pairings on certain dates.
Cherry Creek will air 47 regular season contests of Missoula boys’ and girls’ basketball, including 10 road contests, while also carrying State AA play-in games for Missoula teams in early march and any ensuing tournament games played the following week in Billings, the home of the State AA tourney. It’s been a very long time since the Bozeman Hawks received a true challenge on the football field. Their closest game in almost two months was a 27-point victory.
So can anybody beat Bozeman now that we’re on the eve of Montana’s Class AA football postseason?
That much is still unknown, but it doesn’t mean the rest of the field won’t be ready to try to knock off the 10-0 titans. It all starts with the Spartans of Missoula Sentinel this Friday. Continue reading
