There’s a funny thing about digging through box scores of games you never actually saw for yourself. Sometimes the things that stick out had little — and in this case, no — real impact on the games in which they’re found.
I sure won’t remember the score of Libby’s softball game with Hardin, but I will remember who was pitching in the win — and who was catching her.
I’m talking about Libby’s all-Europe battery connection. On Saturday, Hannah England delivered her pitches to backup catcher Daylin Germany.
It’s not often that England and Germany have hooked up for the Loggers in games this season. Devon Gallagher is the every-day starter behind the plate for Libby, but with four games in four days at Butte Central’s Laverne Combo Softball Invite, the Loggers gave Gallagher’s aching knees a rest for one game.
The switch-up worked pretty well for Libby and England. She threw a six-hitter while allowing only two runs in an 8-2 victory over Hardin, a nonconference game.
Germany didn’t get a hit in the batting lineup but for the sake of more box scores that suggest these once-enemy countries have for sure kissed and made up, here’s hoping we see more of Germany in the little bit of softball season left this spring.
