She’s been building to it all year and Saturday marks the do-or-die moment for Bigfork senior runner Makena Morley.
Morley — along with her freshman sister Bryn and Kalispell Glacier freshman Annie Hil — will run in the national finals of the 36th annual Foot Locker Cross Country Championships this weekend in San Diego.
What do the dates January 3 and February 22 have in common?
Before you go digging through your encyclopedia (do those still exist outside of school libraries?!), let me break the spell for you. The two dates are the days on the calendar in which the Missoula Sentinel boys’ basketball team earned their third wins of the season in each of the last two years.
The Spartans did so just this Friday (Jan. 3) with a 57-55 victory over last year’s Western AA front-runner Kalispell Glacier to improve to 3-2 on the young season.

It’s been a very long time since the Bozeman Hawks received a true challenge on the football field. Their closest game in almost two months was a 27-point victory.
So can anybody beat Bozeman now that we’re on the eve of Montana’s Class AA football postseason?
